Clearwater Beach, Florida -- An electrical problem is blamed for a late night fire that damaged a business on the south beach.
Fire units were called to Flipperz Beach Shop at 437 South Gulfview Boulevard at 11:17 p.m. Tuesday when a police officer on patrol noticed a fire in a shed attached and to the rear of the business, and called in the alarm, officials said.
Firefighters were able to put out the flames before they could spread to adjoining structures. The neighboring Pelican Point Motel was partially evacuated as a precaution.
Damage was assessed at $40,000.
South Gulfview Boulevard and Coronado Avenue were closed to traffic between Fifth Street and Hamden Drive until well after midnight to protect fire hoses deployed across the roadway and give firefighters clear access to the property.
No one was injured.
