Tampa, Florida -- The Florida Department of Transportation is holding an open house Tuesday at Westshore Plaza to give drivers an inside look at the upcoming I-275 widening project.
Construction and lane changes will begin next month.
FDOT is making improvements to a 4.2-mile stretch of I-275 between State Road 60/Memorial Highway and the Hillsborough River.
Improvements include an additional lane, bringing the total number of lanes to four, improved interchanges, and a flatter roadway to improve sight distance.
The southbound lanes will be reconstructed between the Hillsborough River (near Ashley) to State Road 60/Memorial and the northbound lanes will be reconstructed between 60 to Himes Avenue. The northbound lanes between Himes Avenue and the Hillsborough River were complete in 2010.
Construction is scheduled to be complete by Fall 2016. Drivers should anticipate night lane closures, traffic pattern changes and changes to the interchanges.
Costs for this portion of the project are estimated at $215.4 million according to FDOT.
