Bradenton, Florida -- A man and teen girl were arrested Thursday afternoon after they tried to steal nearly $700 worth of items from a local Walmart.

Manatee Sheriff's deputies say around 3:15 p.m., 26-year-old Saul Gutierrez showed up at the Walmart on 53rd Avenue East with his 14-year-old friend and her 6-year-old brother. The two then picked out $698 worth of merchandise and exited the store without paying.

They were stopped out front and Gutierrez was arrested, however, the 14-year-old girl fled into nearby woods leaving her younger brother behind. The girl was found hiding in a retention pond in six inches of water by a K-9. She received two bite wounds and was arrested without incident.

After her arrest, she told police, "I always run, but I normally get away."

The girl was charged with Felony Retail Theft, Child Neglect and Resisting Arrest without Violence.

Gutierrez was charged with Felony Retail Theft and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.
