Madeira Beach, Florida -- Three men have been charged in connection with the beating death of a commercial fisherman back in September.
Deputies say around 2 a.m. on Sept. 12, homeless men Kord Tucker, Timothy Schuyler and Joshua Shroyer boarded Michael Merrill's 33-foot commercial fishing boat while it was docked at a marina just south of the Tom Stewart Causeway and beat him with hand tools and other objects.
Merrill was able to escape and a friend found him a short time later and called police. Merrill died on Oct. 3.
An autopsy revealed his cause of death as blunt force trauma.

Before his death, deputies had arrested all three men and charged them with Aggravated Battery in connection with the crime. Tucker was released on bond before Merrill's death and was brought back into custody on Oct. 16. All three now face second degree murder charges.
Deputies say the beating may have been motivated by a previous disagreement between Merrill and the men.
