I graduated from the University of South Florida. Perhaps, as much as I try to stay totally objective when it comes to covering our sports teams, I critique the teams from that school a little more harshly than I do with others. Fault me if you will.

I have gone back and forth on my Skip Holtz opinion a thousand times. I fired him 20 times during the loss to Temple. I re-hired him 19. The loss was pathetic and ugly. USF has no business losing THIS much.

The Bulls are horrid. They're awful right now! 3-11 in their last 14 games?! That's not the recipe needed to get some interest flowing your program's way. I have broken up with and made up with USF too many times to count. That team is like a long-lost lover. After being away for a while, it's nice to see a familiar face. After being around it for a while, you suddenly remember why you had to leave.

B.J. Daniels is good enough to lead the Bulls to wins. Andre Davis is talented. The linebackers are pretty good. Their head coach... I don't know. It's only been two and a half years, but the record isn't very attractive, Skip. In fact, it's embarrassing. I am ready to start crafting a Skip Holtz piñata.

I spoke to some of Jim Leavitt's former players on Sunday and they told me that they want Skip GONE. Out! Run him out of town! They are sick to their stomachs watching that mess on the field right now.

I can't say I blame them. But, I can also say this. USF isn't exactly Ohio State, or LSU, or Alabama, or any of the other nationally recognized programs out there that expect to be in the major BCS bowl discussions every year. USF is a baby, still trying to make baby steps.

I understand wanting to win. I really do. I want USF to win more than anybody ... BUT, maybe our expectations are little unrealistic.

Win the conference?

That's what we asked Skip to do this year? Heck, try going .500! They didn't do that last year. A few years in a row of mediocre bowl appearances doesn't excite me. Maybe we got all worked up over nothing. We won the PapaJohns.com bowl? Great. We won the Meineke Car Care bowl? Woo hoo.

It may not be Skip's fault that our expectations are high but it is his job to meet them. Unfair or not, he's the guy that has to bump USF up to the next level that its fans expect them to reach. Maybe USF is just a .500 team in a weak conference.

Is it too much to ask for more?
