Tampa, Florida-- Just before 5 this evening, Tampa Police Officers responded to the scene of traffic crash on MLK Blvd. and 39th St. to find a truck engulfed in flames.

The single vehicle crash reportedly started in the 3400 block of MLK Blvd. and continued east until the vehicle left the road and struck a parked delivery work truck.

The police attempted to rescue the driver trapped inside, 53-year-old Robert Ormsby, by using fire extinguishers and five gallon buckets, reports say.

Tampa Fire diverted their response to a medical call and responded to the location to assist the officers.

Upon arrival, crews quickly extinguished the fire, but their rescue efforts for Ormsby were reportedly unsuccessful.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
