Frostproof, Florida -- A man will face two counts of vehicular homicide stemming from a crash that killed two people in the Frostproof area on March 21.

Polk County Sheriff's deputies say around 3:37 p.m. that day, Gino Tutera was heading eastbound on U.S. 98 east of Avon Park Cut-off Road when he crossed over the double yellow line and entered into the westbound lanes, colliding with a Ford Focus occupied by 73-year-old Bobbie Herring and 60-year-old Karen Holmes. The collision resulted in both of their deaths, and serious injury to Tutera.

The sheriff's office says the investigation revealed Tutera was driving 20 mph over the speed limit when he hit the Focus, violating Florida State Statute of "Unlawful Speed". Investigators are also adding reckless driving to the charges after they discovered Tutera sent and received 51 text messages and received two phone calls from the time he left his house around 2:25 p.m until the time of the crash a little over an hour later.

Tutera, 34, was arrested Friday morning and was booked into the Manatee County Jail where he has since bonded out.
