Palmetto, Florida -- A Palmetto man was sentenced to life in federal prison Wednesday on recent drug trafficking charges.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says Stanley Collins received the life sentence because he already had multiple felony drug convictions prior to this most recent one.
Collins was found guilty by a jury on April 27, 2012 of conspiring to possess with the intent to distribute, and attempting to possess with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine.
Evidence at his trial revealed Collins had been dealing large quantities of cocaine between 2008 until his arrest in January 2012. Collins was eventually caught, despite trying to flee, after he bought cocaine from an undercover officer.
As part of his sentence, the court ordered Collins to forfeit a little over $149,000, the same amount that was found in his possession at the time of his arrest.
