Sarasota, Florida -- A man with over 50 felony arrests in three counties was caught breaking into the Sarasota Florida Power and Light facility early Thursday morning.
The sheriff's office says deputies, conducting surveillance last night due to recent crimes in the area, watched as Cornelius McClern tried to pry open the front door of the storage building around 3:20 a.m. When he couldn't get inside, they say he walked around and got into the building through another door. Deputies arrested him inside.
Authorities say McClern has a significant criminal history in Sarasota, Manatee and Pinellas counties with 53 felony charges dating back to 1990, including arrests for burglary, grand theft and trafficking in stolen property. He was released from prison in March of this year but arrested in Manatee County for a similar crime in June.
McClern, 37, was booked into the Sarasota County Jail and charged with Burglary of an Occupied Structure, Possession of Burglary Tools and Criminal Mischief.
