St. Petersburg, Florida-- Patrol deputies responded to a St. Petersburg La Quinta Hotel last night around 10:22 after receiving a call about a shooting in one of the rooms.
Preliminary reports indicate 26-year-old Jeffrey Spurr and 21-year-old Michael Wdowiak were in their hotel room examining the grip on Wdowiak's 357 revolver, when it "discharged one round."
The handgun was reportedly in Spurr's possession and the round struck Wdowiak in "the upper body and left hand."
At least three others were in the room, but reports say no one else was hurt.
As of 12:22 a.m., Wdowiak was undergoing surgery at a local hospital.
Wdowiak and Spurr are reportedly attached to a Florida National Guard contingent from Ocala, and were in town to assist at the Republican National Convention.
The investigation continues.
