BRADENTON, Florida - It's a gorgeous neighborhood from the outside. The Willowbrook subdivision in Lakewood Ranch has modern houses and tree-lined streets. It is considered a homeowner's dream.
But if you take a closer look inside, you'll find a house of horrors, residents say. They claim it has been a nightmare one that won't end. "The walls aren't even nailed in," laments Armando Oloya-Delgado.
Oloya-Delgado is disgusted with his three-story townhouse built by KB Home. In fact, it's become so dangerous to live there, he's moved his children out to stay with relatives. His third floor balcony was rotting so badly that it gave way and collapsed. There are gaping holes in his walls and mold on the floor -- and his place is only a few years old.
"I've cut out mold from my walls and mailed it to the CEO of KB Homes. No response," Armando told 10 News.
Armando isn't the only one.
Sallly Urbaniak tells 10 News that she's miserable, too. When it rains, water drains right through the third floor into the next level, essentially flooding her daughter's home.
Sally says, "It's very stressful. It's overtaken our lives for KB Homes to do the right thing. They're not responding. But, yet when asked by government agencies, they'll say they're addressing it."
They are broken promises, shoddy construction, and dashed hopes, residents tell us. People who live there say they've endured enough, and now they're fighting back.
"They won't even talk to us," one woman said. "We keep asking KB for help and we get no response!"
The residents of Willowbrook subdivision are demanding justice. They want KB Home to buy back their houses instead of making repairs here and there.
Dozens of people walked together to the Lakewood Ranch post office Saturday afternoon to mail their letters to both the company and lawmakers. In fact, they even sent letters to President Obama.
Residents are hoping that their homes can be saved before it's too late.
"I'm shocked that they're still in business. This is a danger, safety issue at this point," Sally admits.
KB Home provided this response to 10 News about the concerns and complaints:
"KB Home is committed to customer satisfaction and has been working diligently to resolve the issues. The Willowbrook Association recently presented KB Home with a claim on behalf of its members and we have worked with the Association to inspect their concerns an d look forward to fully and fairly resolving the homeowners' concerns."
