Tampa, Florida-- Tampa Police officers evacuated nearly 1,000 patrons and employees from the Ritz Theatre tonight after a threat of a possible shooting, police announced just before 10.
A customer overheard two patrons talking about a plan to start shooting during the concert, and police say the management was concerned about the safety of Ritz Theatre customers.
In an abundance of caution, officers evacuated the building and conducted a thorough search with K-9, and officers say they did not find any weapons.
The patrons were evacuated from 6 - 7:40 p.m.
During that time, one block of 7th Avenue was shut down.
Police say when patrons re-entered the theatre, a Tampa Police Sergeant took the stage and explained why the evacuation was necessary, resulting in applause and appreciation from the crowd.
Reports say the concert scheduled for this evening resumed as scheduled.
