LAKE PLACID, Fla.- Highlands County Sheriff's detectives continue to investigate the death of a 76-year-old man shot in his own home early Tuesday morning.

Detectives say Donnie Jenkins Williams of 101 Apple Tree Avenue in Lake Placid was shot during an altercation in the home. No charges have been filed in the case and Sheriff Susan Benton indicated this week there are extenuating circumstances that may justify Williams' death.

The Sheriff's Office says it is still continuing to investigate the case as a homicide.

Anyone with additional information is asked to call Highlands County Sheriff's Detective Hank Smith at 863-402-7250. Anyone with information who wants to remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward is asked to call Heartland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-TIPS (8477).
