Clearwater, Florida --  Clearwater police say two men playing in a soccer game attacked the referee, because they were upset over a call.

It happened during a club soccer game at Joe DiMaggio Field on Sunday afternoon. The men, apparently upset over a call, punched the ref in the back of the head.

The referee received serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The two attackers fled the game in a white Mercedes.

Investigators originally mis-identified the suspects, because they provided false league cards with fake names on them. Police did pull over the white Mercedes with the suspects inside shortly after the attack, but because the names did not match at the time, police let them go.

The attackers, who have now been identified as Timothy Kerr and Dale Lewis, are still on the run.
