Spring Hill, Florida -- A sub-contractor employee was arrested Wednesday after he was caught in possession of the same copper he stole from a contracted home the night before.

Brooksville Police say William Gillespie broke into the closed building at 55 Ponce De Leon Blvd. on the night of June 26 and stole 1,200 feet of recently installed copper wiring.

When Gillespie didn't come to work the next day, police showed up at a friend's house he had been staying at. Gillespie's friend told detectives Gillespie showed up the night before and asked him for help stripping the wire.

Gillespie, 23, was arrested during a traffic stop and officers found some of the copper wire he stole in his car.

Gillespie has been charged with Burglary.
