Bradenton, Fla. -- Chris Weinke has been a football coach as IMG's director of football. Now he will be a head coach.
Weinke will lead the new IMG high school football team that will begin play in 2013.
"Through our camps, clinics, combines and individual training, I have spent an incredible two years at IMG Academy working with some of the most talented young football players in the nation" said Chris Weinke. "I have been looking forward to the day we could announce the formation of a competitive team, and that day is finally here."
Much like basketball and lacrosse, IMG will field a team that will play a full high school schedule with a team comprised of students who live and train at IMG year-round. They will practice on the same fields used for NFL combine training and off-season workouts for players like Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton.
"Student-athletes are enrolled in one of the most challenging and rewarding football development programs in the country," remarked IMG Academy's Athletics Director, Greg Phillips. "The college preparatory experience here is second-to-none, and we expect our first class of football student-athletes will take full advantage of the resources made available to them as they look to advance to the next level."
Practice will begin in spring 2013.
