DUNEDIN, Florida -- Several people were sickened by a wretched smell at Mease Dunedin Hospital on Sunday night.
Hazmat investigators were called to the hospital with what hospital staff thought was a pesticide-type smell.
Dunedin Fire Chief Bud Meyer says it turns out it the offensive odor was coming off of a homeless man who was in the emergency room.
The man claimed he had sprayed himself with deodorant, but judging by the smell, it was probably some kind of insect repellant or RAID-type spray.
In all, six staffers were overwhelmed by the stench and became ill.
The homeless man was thoroughly washed with proper soap and is expected to be released from the hospital.
