St. Petersburg, Florida -- Clearwater's Matt Geiger explained to 10 News Sunday night, exactly what happened he collided with the Rays' Carlos Pena while both were chasing a foul pop fly in the 8th inning.

Geiger said he lost track of exactly where he was, in relation to the wall.

"I thought I was 5 or 10 feet in, easily," said Geiger, who played 10 seasons in the NBA. "I couldn't judge it, but I thought I was that far... Then getting a bead on the ball, I totally lost track of where I was... When I put my hands out to get it, all of a sudden Carlos hands were in my chest... The ball hit me in the wrists... My hands hit his glove... Then I realized what happened, and I felt terrible... He could have made that play."

Geiger said he got caught up in trying to get the foul ball for his son, who was with him at the game.

An usher came to escort Geiger out, and it appeared he was being ejected from Tropicana Field.  In truth, the usher said they were just looking at video to determine if Geiger had reached onto the field of play.  He did not, and he returned to his family.

Geiger said if he had Carlos Pena's phone number, he would have texted him to apologize.
