ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (AP) - A BP spokesman says the company was still in the process of reviewing an oil spill claim by a landmark St. Petersburg-area hotel that sued this week because it hasn't been paid.
The Don Cesar Resort Hotel on St. Pete Beach sued BP Exploration and Production Tuesday in Houston, where the oil company is based.
The suit claims BP reneged on an agreement to pay the hotel $5.2 million for lost business after the Gulf of Mexico oil spill in 2010.
On Thursday, BP spokesman Tom Mueller said in an email that the claim was going through the "standard appeal process" in the Gulf Coast Claims Facility. He said he was "disappointed" the hotel filed suit rather than allowing the claim to be fully reviewed.
