ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- St. Petersburg police have arrested an 18-year-old in connection with the death of another teen, whose body was discovered in an abandoned stolen vehicle Thursday night.

Police say Demontray Lovett was arrested at his home at around 7:30 p.m. tonight without incident and has been charged with the shooting death of Carl Martin.

According to detectives, Lovett and Martin were part of a group riding in a stolen Dodge Caravan on their way to St. Pete Beach to steal another vehicle.

Lovett, who was armed with a 40 caliber handgun, accidentally shot Martin, who was in the front passenger seat.

Police say the group drove back to St. Petersburg and, believing Martin had died, abandoned the van at the location where it was later found by police.

No other arrests have been made at this point.
