If you are what you eat, boy, have I been working hard to get rid of years of Twinkies, soda, licorice, doughnuts, cakes, cookies, pizza and decades of daily fast food runs that made up my DNA!
The busy life of a TV journalist consumed all of my time so I relied on fast food, soda and whatever else I could grab while I was on the run.
The sugar-induced pigfest ended when I had a health scare in 2002.
My body certainly was "whispering" that it's time to slooooow down. No more working double shifts and forgetting how to feed myself.
I soon realized eating whole foods and using products that actually had ingredients I could pronounce made a dramatic difference in my health.
I stopped shortchanging myself and made nutrition a priority.
My focus as an investigative reporter also changed.
I started paying close attention to studies about nutrition and soon realized eating fresh, simple foods and cutting down on my exposure to everyday chemicals (cleaners, hairspray, etc.) made me feel great.
I don't get too carried away.
For me, it all boils down to "will it help or hurt my immune system?"
I keep it simple.
I've been leaving this way for almost 10 years.
