Miami, Florida -- The Missing Child Alert issued for three Miami area boys has been canceled.
The alert was issued for the Pena boys -- ages 7, 8, and 12 -- on Feb. 17. According to a tweet from the Miami-Dade Schools Police, the boys were found safe in Barstow, California and their mother Carrie Weingarth and her boyfriend are in police custody.
Authorities said Weingarth had picked up 12-year-old Erin Pena from Gulf Stream Elementary School in Cutler Bay on Feb. 14 and left town with his two brothers, Steven and Derrick.
The Miami Herald reports family members said when she took the boys, she had custody of two of them. However due to the incident, the state has awarded custody of all three boys to their biological father.
