Naples, Florida (News-Press) -- On Monday, the Naples Police Department received an animal cruelty complaint.

Witnesses said they saw a man use a broom to kill eight ducklings and injure two others in the George Washington Carver Apartment Complex. The ducklings were left on the property and in the roadway.

Officers were able to rescue two of the ducklings and take them to the Conservancy of Naples for treatment of injuries, a news release said. Veterinarians at the conservancy estimated the ducklings were about 2 weeks old.

Detectives identified the suspect as Rolando Rives, 55, of Naples. On Wednesday, Rives was arrested and charged with eight counts of animal cruelty.
