Tallahassee, Florida - The Florida Lottery celebrates its 25th anniversary with a new logo designed to reflect a fresh direction for the future.

The Lottery unveiled the new logo Monday at its Tallahassee headquarters. The logo features a redesigned flamingo and brighter colors.

Lottery Secretary Cynthia O'Connell says the agency is always trying to think of new games and more ways to win after operating for 25 years.

During that time, she says the lottery has generated $24 billion for education and created more than 1,200 millionaires. Players have collected nearly $38 billion since the lottery premiered on January 12, 1988.

O'Connell says the new logo is more enthusiastic and that attitude reflects the Florida Lottery of the future.

"The familiar flamingo and sunset logo has served the Florida Lottery very well, providing an instantly recognizable way for players to find their fun, but now it's time to bring that flamingo into the 21st Century with a fresh and modern design."

The Florida Lottery has also contributed billions of dollars to state colleges and universities through the Bright Futures program.

Alysson Stevens received a Bright Futures scholarship that paid 100 percent of her tuition and fees at Florida State, so she said it was a no-brainer to stay in Florida for college. Today Alysson is a lawyer in Florida.

"Because of the funding I received, I was able to focus on my studies. I graduated in three-and-a-half years and I was able to also play on the FSU women's club soccer and participate in numerous extracurricular activities. I had an amazing experience at FSU and I wouldn't change it for anything."

Last year the Florida Lottery generated a record $1.3 billion for education. O'Connell says sales are brisk in this fiscal year as well and the lottery is on pace to post another record-setting year for education.

She says the redesigned Florida Lottery is going strong.

"We create some energy and excitement by having bigger games, brighter futures, more winning moments and a new brand that reflects the energy of the future and the energy of today's lottery."
