Pensacola, Florida (PNJ) -- A man accused of stabbing a 13-year-old girl late Tuesday night is now behind bars.
Escambia County Sheriff's Office Spokesman Matt Baxter said deputies arrested Wendell D. Suggs, 23, Tuesday night in connection with the stabbing of the teen.
According to a release from the Sheriff's Office, deputies learned the teen was stabbed after responding to the scene of a reported disturbance in the 200 block of Edison Drive around 9:40 p.m.
Escambia County Emergency Medical personnel arrived shortly before 9:50 p.m. and took the girl to Baptist Hospital, paramedics said.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Melissa Rawson said Tuesday night that the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
After several hours of intense search with help from a K-9 unit, deputies discovered Suggs hiding in a yard in the 400 block of Edison Drive.
Suggs, who is listed as homeless, was taken into custody by deputies around 11:15 p.m. He faces charges of battery, aggravated battery, sexual assault and petit theft, according to the Sheriff's Office. He is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 1.
