TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida's judges aren't happy about some new rules on how the state's judicial system is governed that were adopted by the Florida Supreme Court.

The justices, though, heard after-the-fact comments on Wednesday from representatives of trial and appellate court conferences.

They disagree with rules curtailing judges' public comments on court issues and setting eight-year term limits for chief judges.

The Supreme Court approved the rules in February, but three of the seven justices dissented from all or parts of the opinion.

The rules are aimed at consolidating the high court's power over Florida's judicial system and strengthening the chief justice's authority in many respects.

They also do away with seniority as the sole criteria for selecting the chief justice and the chief judges of the other courts.
