Palm Bay, Florida (Florida Today) -- A Palm Bay man received the Purple Heart for wounds he suffered during a tour of duty in Afghanistan.
Cpl. Chad S. White, served with the U.S. Marine Corps, 2nd Battalion 9th Marines, according to a press release.
White, 25, was in Afghanistan from July 2010 to February 2011. He was injured in August 2010 when his convoy was hit by a roadside bomb. He suffered a concussion, as well as neck, back and leg injuries.
As a result of the injuries, White was medically retired on April 28. He lives in Palm Bay with his wife and 3-year-old daughter.
The Purple Heart is awarded to any member of the Armed Forces who is wounded in the line of duty. The ceremony took place Thursday evening at Palm Bay City Hall Council Chambers on Malabar Road.
