Tallahassee, Florida - Gas prices are on the rise again - up nearly 10 cents in just the last week.
But that news won't concern Carla Carlson of Orlando. She is the grand prize winner of the Florida Lottery's Gas for Life promotion.
Nearly two million players entered the second-chance drawing that ran from May to July.
Carlson had the option of choosing $3,500 in gas cards for the rest of her life, or a lump sum cash payment of $72,000. She took the money.
Dennis Harmon says the Lottery got a lot of positive feedback about the promotion from players. He says gas for life is an idea that helps keep the Lottery fresh after 25 years.
"It's the kind of thing that keeps people interested in the Lottery. It's the kind of thing that led to us having a record year this past year, all-time record sales and all-time record contributions to educational funding."
Last year the Florida Lottery had a record $4.5 billion in sales and contributed a record $1.3 billion to education.
Another five players won Gas for a Year, while 52 people won Gas for a Month.
