TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - The Freedom from Religion Foundation is objecting to a prayer the head of Florida's Department of Children and Families emailed to employees.
The Wisconsin-based group sent a letter to Gov. Rick Scott on Friday saying DCF Secretary David Wilkins' action was an unconstitutional state endorsement of Christianity.
The letter urges Scott to tell Wilkins state resources such as email cannot be used to project personal religious views. An employee brought the matter to the group's attention.
A department spokesman denied Wilkins violated employees' rights.
He says the email was part of Wilkins' effort to share details about his activities with employees.
Wilkins recited the prayer Thursday at a National Prayer Day event with Scott at the Florida Capitol.
A Scott spokesman also defended Wilkins, denying the email was state-sponsored religion.
