Tallahassee, Florida - Former NFL player Junior Seau was remembered at a National Day of Prayer event at the state Capitol Thursday.

Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll sent her prayers to the family of Seau, who apparently killed himself on Wednesday at the age of 43.

Carroll spoke about the increasing focus on head injuries in the NFL, as well as among our nation's soldiers.

She has a direct connection to the issue because her son plays in the NFL.

"My son plays in the NFL for the Miami Dolphins and yesterday Junior Seau took his life and it's sad because it also brings it home not only to being a mother of an NFL player, particularly now that they're talking about the multiple head injuries that he may have received to put him to that point. But our military men and women are also coming back with injuries in the head and PTSD, post-traumatic stress disorder, is something that is plaguing our military men and women and sometimes as to the people listening and seeing this National Day of Prayer event, that if you feel that is so much for you that you cannot bear it, know that God is always with you. His strength will get you over anything, any obstacle, any situation that you're going through."

The National Day of Prayer dates back to 1952.
