Tallahassee, Florida - You now have the ability to see all of the emails to and from Gov. Rick Scott on his state email account.

On Thursday, the governor unveiled a new effort called "Project Sunburst" that he says is designed to increase transparency and accountability of his administration.

Scott says Floridians will have a new window into how their state government works.

Right now Project Sunburst includes the emails of the governor and 11 people of his leadership team.

"These emails make up more than 80 percent of the public records requests for emails that we receive. This unprecedented step gives the citizens of Florida as well as members of the media, an open and transparent window into how their state government works," said Gov. Scott.

The project will include other state agencies in coming months. Scott says the traditional system for public record requests will remain.

"Project Sunburst will in no way replace the current process that we have for handling public records requests."

The governor was asked if the new effort might actually pressure staffers to use their personal emails accounts more often, such as Gmail, and consequently drive more of his administration's communication underground.

Scott said they know they're expected to conduct state business on state email accounts.

Project Sunburst's policy is to post emails within seven days unless Scott's office gives permission for an extended deadline. The goal is to place emails online within 24 hours.

You can view the governor's emails at: www.flgov.com/sunburst. The username and password are both sunburst.
