NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (WKMG) - A Volusia County fourth grader has been suspended from riding the bus after a number of children-boys and girls-said he groped them when they were getting off the bus.
Leslie Goodrich and Michael Krol said they were stunned when their three young children came to them for help after they said the student touched them inappropriately while getting off at their bus stop.
"As they are going off the bus he's literally grabbing their private areas," Goodrich said.
School officials at Read-Patillio Elementary said the 10-year-old student was disciplined for his behavior in September. Students said he now has to sit directly behind the bus driver, but that didn't stop him from reaching out and touching other students again.
"He sits on the edge of the seat and you can see he wants to touch every child as they pass right in the genital area in private parts and it doesn't matter if it's a boy or a girl," Krol said.
Goodrich and Krol's youngest child is 5-years-old and said she doesn't want to ride the bus now.
"I'm afraid to put her back on the bus," Goodrich said. "It's already happened once, the second time now what else is going to happen?"
The couple reviewed surveillance video from the bus, which school officials would not release to the public. They said it shows the fourth grader not only touching their children, but nearly a dozen other young students.
The boy has been suspended from riding the bus again, but the couple just wants the boy to keep his hands to himself.
"His parents are responsible for getting him to and from school," Krol said. "That's what I think should happen, not our kids have to pay the price."
