(CBS NEWS) With Alan Ball no longer at the helm as showrunner of "True Blood," things are a bit scary in Bon Temps. But Anna Paquin, who plays Sookie Stackhouse, is confident that the cast and crew will find their way.

"We have an amazing writing staff," Paquin told CBSNews.com while promoting the YouTube series "Susanna." "It's not that we don't miss him at all. He's incredibly talented. He created the world that we're all living in now, but he kind of cut the apron strings. We're off on our own now."

Season 6 has presented many mysteries, with the most glaring being the fate of Bill Compton (Paquin's real-life husband, Stephen Moyer). Sookie's on-again/off-again lover drank the blood of the first vampire, Lilith, in last year's finale and was transformed into something strange -- which is saying a lot in the "True Blood" universe.

Lips sealed, Paquin said that the secrets behind "Billith" are too complicated and plot-driven for her to tell all without lying or explaining too much.

"We still don't know ultimately who or what this character is," she said.

As for Sookie's other former vampire lover, Paquin said not to write off her relationship with Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) just yet. Even though she's rescinded his invitation from her house, the actress said that there will always be something between the two characters because they "genuinely have affections for each other." Whether that means love in the future or a solid friendship remains to be seen, especially with half-fairy Ben arriving in Louisiana.

"I don't think it's giving anything if I say if it involves Sookie. It's always complicated," she said, laughing. "That it's not necessarily going to pan out in a way that's easy, simple or un-traumatizing.

The new season of "True Blood" airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
