(USA TODAY) Under the Dome scored over-the-top ratings.
Monday's premiere of CBS's 13-episode summer drama averaged 13.5 million viewers, according to Nielsen estimates. That makes it the network's biggest summer start since Big Brother bowed in 2000, and the most-watched summer drama opener on any network since 1992.
It's also this TV season's second-biggest premiere of a new show among young-adult viewers, behind only Fox's The Following, which arrived in January, when TV usage is higher.
Dome, based on Stephen King's 2009 novel, is about a small New England town suddenly covered by a giant, um, dome. King consulted on the project, which was produced by Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television and CBS Studios.
