OCEAN CITY, MD. (DelawareOnline.com) -- Melissa King, the Delaware teen
beauty pageant winner who lost her crown in a sex-tape scandal, pleaded
guilty this morning to a minor alcohol charge in Maryland and paid a
$100 fine, paving the way for her to get a fresh start in life at
college in the fall, her attorney said.
19, pleaded guilty to one count of underage alcohol possession in
District Court in Ocean City. A second charge of theft, in which police
alleged she stole money from a cash box on a municipal bus in Ocean
City, was dropped by prosecutor Paul Haskell, who told judge Daniel R.
Mumford the evidence behind the charge wasn't strong.
attorney, J. Gregory Hannigan, said outside the courtroom that King's
boyfriend, who came with her to court, immediately paid her $100 fine
and $45 in court costs. King, he said, has plans to attend a college
this fall as a freshman. . "So that she can be a normal freshman, we're
going to keep the name quiet," Hannigan said.

video since initially denying she was in it. Hannigan deflected a
question about the video after the court hearing, saying he had
instructed her not to answer any questions about it.
"In time, a statement will be made about that," he said.
As for the outcome of the charges, he said, "she told me she was very relieved."
