Hillsborough County, Florida -- At their regular board meeting on Aug. 21, the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved an agreement that would share costs for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office to continue to provide stationed Resource Officers at middle and senior high schools.

Under this agreement, Hillsborough County and the School Board of Hillsborough County each agree to pay one-half of the program cost, or more than $2.7 million each.

The School Resource Officer Program has been in effect since the early 1970's. It has been a viable program in curtailing many problem areas in the various middle and senior high schools by providing classroom instruction, student counseling, security, traffic control, and law enforcement.
