Pinellas County, Florida -- Under a new federal program, 58 schools in Pinellas County will offer lunch at no charge to all students beginning this school year. Families of students at schools in the Community Eligibility Option (CEO) program will not need to submit applications for free/reduced price lunches.

Additionally, a new district initiative begins this year for students at non-CEO schools. Students at those schools who qualify for reduced-priced lunches will also receive lunch at no charge. However, families of students at those schools will still need to submit applications for free/reduced price lunches.

All Pinellas County Schools already offer breakfast at no charge.

The district's Food Service Department anticipates that the CEO program will encourage more students to participate in the school lunch program and lunch service will be streamlined.

Under the Community Eligibility Option, a school qualifies for the program if 40 percent or more of the student population is considered directly qualified. A student is directly qualified if their family receives SNAP or TANF or if the student is a foster child or identified as homeless.

Students at all schools can still have pre-payment accounts for a la carte items.
