Dunedin, Florida -- Dozens of Florida farm workers and their supporters gathered outside a newly revamped Publix in Dunedin Thursday to voice their concerns about poor wages and work conditions.

The protestors carried signs and chanted their disapproval. The Coalition of Immokalee Farm workers demanded higher wages and safer work conditions. The workers want Publix to join the Fair Food Program which is a partnership between farm workers and food retailers.

Eleven companies have signed on so far including grocery chains Trader Joe's and Whole Foods.

Publix representatives tell 10 News they were approached three years ago by the Coalition but did not sign on telling us it is a labor dispute between the workers and their employers...not Publix.

Publix tells us they expect all of their suppliers to follow the laws that protect employees. As for the Coalition, they tell us they'll be back out protesting other Publix locations in the coming weeks.
