Winter Haven, Florida -- Students from Our Children's Academy, a school for special needs children, spent a day at the Winter Haven Fire Station.

"For us to be able to bring kids in on a good day and let them have fun and see the enjoyment in their eyes that's really important for us. It's fun for them but it's even more fun for us," said Lieutenant Michael Waters.

Firefighters and medical personnel showed the kids tools they use. Kids also had their faces painted by the firefighters, jumped in a bounce house and climbed in a fire truck.

It wasn't hard to see how much fun they were having but it wasn't only a day of fun for the kids; it was an opportunity for them to learn fire safety tips too.

"It's nice because some of these children are special needs so the ability to walk around and be able to walk up to this stuff and utilize firsthand is a great experience," said Kim Ray, Our Children's Academy Principal.

During their visit, the kids got to see firsthand as firefighters sprung into action after receiving an emergency call at the station.

The kids were served lunch to finish their day and left with a lesson they'll never forget.

"Some children may never experience this if it wasn't for Winter Haven Fire Department," said Kim.
