Sarasota, Florida -- You may think of them as crime fighters, but Sarasota Police are also helping their community. The Department is collecting jeans for homeless teens.
It has been estimated that there are 1.7 million homeless teenagers in America. Four hundred of those teens live in Sarasota, and according to officers, the number one requested item for homeless teens in shelters is jeans.
The "Teens for Jeans" campaign is promoted by Aeropostale Stores and Do Something.org.
Since 2007 this campaign has collected more than 2.5 million pairs of donated jeans.
