Hillsborough County Administrator Mike Merrill
Tampa, Florida -- Hillsborough County Administrator Mike Merrill is recommending the head of the County Consumer Protection Division Kevin Jackson to become the interim chief of the Hillsborough Public Transportation Commission.
The former director, Cesar Padilla, has been under fire for a variety of missteps including working on his degree online during business hours while he was being paid a six-figure salary and moonlighting at another job.

Merrill says, Jackson fits the qualification and has a long and distinguished record of service to the state and Hillsborough County.
County Commissioner Victor Crist who asked Merrill to recommend an interim director says he thinks Jackson is a good choice and he will present it to the PTC board at the next meeting Sept. 11.
Ironically, some have said the PTC should be moved under the Hillsborough Protection Unit, instead of being a standalone agency.
Several legislators say they will introduce a bill to abolish the PTC. The move is gaining support from newspaper editorials as well as Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn who says the agency may have outlived its usefulness.
