MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Tropical Depression 16 strengthened into Tropical Storm Patty late Thursday afternoon, just hours after forming in the northeastern Caribbean.
At 5 a.m. Friday, the center of T.S. Patty was about 230 miles east-northeast of the central Bahamas.
Maximum sustained winds were 40 mph with higher gusts.
The storm earlier had 45 mph winds, but it weakened overnight. The National Hurricane Center forecast calls for the storm to turn south-southwest on Friday, and increase in forward speed on Sunday.
Weakening is likely and Patty could become a remnant low by Saturday.
