Aboard a hurricane hunter for training mission

MacDill Air Force Base, Florida --  Most of the hurricane research that requires aerial surveillance is conducted right here out of Tampa Bay.

P-3 hurricane Hunters are based at MacDill Air Force Base and these planes fly low-altitude flights into the eye of hurricanes.

This season will be the first time that tail doppler radar data will be integrated into the HWRF computer models in real time so that forecasters can make operational decisions in time for a forecast cycle.
