Taking prenatal vitamins appears to lower autims risk by 60 percent. A new study finds prenatals have a protective benefit especially for women with a high risk genetic make-up.

Doctors say the extra B-vitamins in them are crucial for brain development.

They say women should take them three months before pregnancy and at least one month after.

Scientists say this study suggests a gene environment interaction may be a contributing factor to autism.
